Count von Count (also known as The Count) is a character on the PBS television series Sesame Street. Introduced in Season 4, he is a mysterious but friendly vampire-like Muppet who is meant to parody Bela Lugosi's portrayal of Count Dracula. He has a compulsive love of counting; he will count anything and everything, regardless of size, amount, or how much annoyance he causes others around him. Whenever he finishes counting, he laughs and announces his total (which sometimes appears on screen), usually accompanied by a flash of lightning and clap of thunder.

The Count in Once Upon a Sesame Street Christmas

The Count has a minor role in the very first Sesame Street Christmas special, Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. He appears at the beginning, ice skating with everyone. During this sequence, he, Ernie, and Cookie Monster play a few pranks on Bert. He is later seen traveling back to Sesame Street with everyone after they are all finished ice skating but does not appear again afterward.

The Count has a minor subplot in Elmo Saves Christmas. After Elmo wishes for it to be Christmas every day, he is shown counting each consecutive Christmas that follows, adding one day that follows. By the time it gets to the actual Christmas the following year, he has been "Christmassed out" for counting 365 consecutive times, which disappoints Elmo.

In Elmo's Christmas Countdown, the Count sings "I Saw Three Ships" with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington.

The Count makes a few appearances in "A Furchester Christmas", in which Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Phoebe, Furnella, Furgus, Gonger and the guests are waiting for Santa, hoping he would make it to the Furchester Hotel on Christmas.

At the beginning of Once Upon a Sesame Street Christmas, the Count is seen walking by the Christmas tree carrying presents after he noted Elmo, Abby, and Rosita as three excited children, laughing and bringing the thunder.

In Sesame Street: The Nutcracker Starring Elmo & Tango, the Count is seen coming inside Elmo's apartment on Christmas Eve, bringing presents to Elmo and his friends, two of which are a wind-up rocket for Elmo and a nutcracker dog toy for Tango, respectively.

Other Christmas productions[]

In A Muppet Family Christmas, the Count and his fellow Sesame Street Muppets join Kermit and his Muppet Show co-tars at Fozzie's mother's farmhouse for Christmas. Upon seeing the snowstorm beginning outside the farmhouse, the Count begins counting all the snowflakes as they fall. Later, when Kermit and his nephew, Robin, are worried that Miss Piggy will not be able to make it through the blizzard, the Count does his standard counting bit with them, much to the confusion of Doc from Fraggle Rock. At the end, during the Christmas caroling medley, the Count leads everyone in singing "I Saw Three Ships".

The Count and several of his costars made a special guest appearance in the 2014 edition of Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
