Peppermint Patty and Marcie made cookies

Peppermint Patty and Marcie in "Happiness Is Holiday Traditions".

Patricia "Peppermint Patty" Reichardt is a major character from the newspaper comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz, introduced in 1966. She is a young tomboyish girl who lives across town from Charlie Brown (whom she always calls "Chuck") and his friends. She has a persistent habit of profoundly misunderstanding basic concepts and ideas that most people would consider obvious, leading to ultimately embarrassing situations. She usually receives a D− grade on every test or assignment in school (though she did receive an A+ when she wrote an essay about Snoopy) and has trouble staying awake in class, but she is also very good at sports.

Appearances in Christmas specials[]

  • "The Play" - This segment from an episode of The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show adapts a storyline from the strip in which Peppermint Patty is cast as a sheep in the Nativity pageant, while Marcie is cast as Mary.
  • It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown - Early on in this 1992 special, Peppermint Patty is assigned to do a book report during Christmas vacation, but keeps procrastinating on it, including watching a movie adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities on TV (figuring that she won't have to read the book that way) and going out to build a snowman. (In the comic strip, this storyline ended with Patty ultimately giving a report on a cereal box, but this part wasn't adapted for the special.) After that, she and Marcie attend a performance of George Frideric Handel's Messiah; when she writes a report about it the next day, she refers to the author as "Joe Handel" because neither she nor Marcie know his actual first name. The above-mentioned storyline about her playing a sheep in the pageant is adapted again later in the special.
  • "Christmas is on Its Way"
  • "Happiness is the Gift of Giving"
  • "Happiness Is Holiday Traditions"

Notes[]

  • Since Peppermint Patty's introduction in the strip came several months after A Charlie Brown Christmas premiered, she obviously did not appear in that special. Curiously, a few later storybook adaptations of the special typically include her in place of the original Patty.
