"Alone in the World" is a song featured in Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol. The song is first sung by the young Ebenezer Scrooge, left behind in boarding school after all the other children have gone home for Christmas. As he sings this song about his crushing loneliness, his future adult counterpart (played by Mr. Magoo) eventually sings the song in unison with him. Later in the special, Magoo/Scrooge sings a short reprise the after the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come abandons him in the cemetery.

Lyrics[]

Adult Scrooge: Oh, poor, lonely child
Poor lonely child

Young Scrooge: When you’re alone, alone in the world
When you’re alone in the world
Blown the way leaves get blown in the world
Swirled the way leaves get swirled

Listening to your heels when you walk
Making a lonely clack

You don’t know how it feels
When you talk and nobody’s voice talks back

A hand for each hand was planned for the world
Why don’t my fingers reach?

A million grains of sand in the world
Why such a lonely beach?

Where is a voice to answer mine back?
Where are two shoes that click to my clack?

I’m all alone in the world

Adult Scrooge: A hand for each hand
Both: Was planned for the world
Why don’t my fingers reach?

A million grains of sand in the world
Why such a lonely beach?

Adult Scrooge: Where is a voice to answer mine back?
Young Scrooge: Where are two shoes that click to my clack?

Both: I’m all alone in the world

Reprise[]

You don’t know how it feels when you talk
And nobody’s voice talks back

A hand for each hand was planned for the world
Why don’t my fingers reach?

A million grains of sand in the world
Why such a lonely beach?

Where is a voice to answer mine back?
Where are two shoes that click to my clack?

I’m all alone in the world
