Caryn Elaine Johnson (born November 13, 1955), better known by her stage name Whoopi Goldberg, is an American actress, comedian, singer, writer, social critic, and television host, who is best known for her work in many feature films and television shows, including Oda Mae Brown in Ghost, for which she won a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award, and Cele in The Color Purple, for which she was nominated for a Best Leading Actress Academy Award. She also voiced Shenzi in Disney's The Lion King.
