Jiminy Cricket is a cartoon character introduced in the 1940 Disney animated film Pinocchio, in which he served as the title character's conscience. Originally an incidental character who had a very brief role in the story that the film was based on, Jiminy went on to become a popular Disney character who would star in several more productions, including a few Christmas specials.
Appearances in Christmas specials
- From All of Us to All of You
- Mickey's Christmas Carol - In this adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, Jiminy plays the role of the Ghost of Christmas Past. When Jiminy shows up and introduces himself to Ebenezer Scrooge (played by Scrooge McDuck), Scrooge comments on his small size, to which Jiminy retorts, "If men were measured by kindness, you'd be no bigger than a speck of dust!" Jiminy then takes Scrooge to visit his own past - specifically, the Christmas party at Fezziwig's where he met Isabel (Daisy Duck), and the night when she walked out on him because he broke her heart. It should be noted that Jiminy did not portray the Ghost of Christmas Past in The Walt Disney Players: Dickens' A Christmas Carol, the vinyl record that inspired the special; there, the Ghost was played by Merlin from The Sword in the Stone.
