Mr. Thistlewhite is Iggy's father. As he and his wife entertain an undercover Santa Claus in their home, Mr. Thistlewhite recalls the moment in his childhood when he truly believed in Santa Claus. He expresses this sentiment in song, "I Believe in Santa Claus."

After the family discovers the identity of their visitor, Mr. Thistlewhite urges his son to help out in any way he can. This includes pleading with the town mayor and travelling to such places as a volcano and a snow castle with Mrs. Claus on a flying sleigh.

In the live-action remake, Mr. Thistlewhite and the Mayor of Southtown are merged into a single composite character, the ambitious Mayor Thistlewhite, played by Robert Trevelier.
