Pinocchio is a character originally created by Italian author Carlo Collodi for the novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. He is a marionette built by Geppetto and magically brought to life. Geppetto becomes a father figure to the little wooden boy, but Pinocchio eventually leaves his home. Over the course of his adventures, he is reunited with Geppetto and eventually turned into a real boy by the Blue Fairy who brought him to life in the first place.
Appearances in Christmas specials
The Disney version of Pinocchio never starred in a Christmas special of his own, but Jiminy Cricket, who had starred as the character's conscience in the film, appeared as the host of the special From All of Us to All of You, which included a clip from the original film.
Pinocchio himself, along with Geppetto and Jiminy, appears in Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse and the two House of Mouse Christmas episodes. In a segment produced for the episode "Pete's Christmas Caper" that was also used in Mickey's Magical Christmas, Mickey Mouse asks some of his fellow Disney stars what they want for Christmas; Pinocchio says that he wants "no strings to hold me down" (a reference to "I've Got No Strings", a song he sings in his movie).
Under Rankin/Bass, Pinocchio was the main character of his own Christmas special, Pinocchio's Christmas. It should be noted that Rankin/Bass had earlier done a television series starring the character, The New Adventures of Pinocchio in 1960; however, the character in Pinocchio's Christmas does not appear to be the same as the character in the earlier television series.
