Toad is a regularly recurring character from the Super Mario Bros. video game series. He is Princess Peach's attendant and a long time protector of the Mushroom Kingdom. He is actually a singular character among an entire species of look-alikes. He usually has the role of a supporting character who tries to help Mario and/or Luigi on their adventures; however, he has occasionally been a playable character and a main protagonist at times as well.

Toad's only appearance in a Christmas production was in "Koopa Klaus", the Christmas episode for the animated portion of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! In the episode, Toad is given the task of guiding his friends to Hawaiiland for their Christmas vacation, but he instead brings them to the North Pole. It becomes evident that receiving presents is the only thing Toad can think about when it comes to Christmas, to the point that he does not bother to thank Princess Peach when she gives him a snowboard as her gift to him, and selfishly shows more concern for his snowboard after Bowser drops Bob-ombs on him and his friends. When the group sees that Bowser has captured Santa Claus and frozen his workshop, Toad is more concerned for saving the presents than saving Santa himself. After they do rescue Santa, Toad still believes everything is alright because he already got a present earlier, despite the fact that the workshop is still frozen and Santa will not be able to deliver presents to anyone else. But after some prompting from Peach, Toad gives up his snowboard to Santa, saying that he will at least have one present to give to someone. As a result of Toad showing his kindness, this manages to melt the ice surrounding Santa's workshop, thus saving Christmas.

Toad does not appear in the Mario series' other Christmas episode, "The Night Before Cave Christmas", as he was not in the game that the Super Mario World animated series was based on. Oddly enough, Oogtar the caveboy, the character who replaced Toad (and even had the same voice actor as him), shows a very similar role in that episode, as Oogtar also initially only cares about receiving presents but eventually learns that it is better to give than receive.
