"When Christmas Comes to Town" is a Christmas song written by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard and performed by Matthew Hall and Meagan Moore (as Billy and Hero Girl respectively) in The Polar Express. In the film, Billy and Hero Girl sing it while looking out from the back of the train before they reach the North Pole. It is heard again during the scrolling portion of the main-on-end credits, but Billy's opening vocalizing is deleted and the ending instrumental when the last word of the song serges into the start of the instrumental of "Hot Chocolate".
Lyrics[]
Billy:
- (Vocalizing)
- La la la la la la la
- La-la-la la la
- La-la-la la la
- I'm wishing on a star
- And trying to believe
- That even though it's far
- He'll find me Christmas Eve
- I guess that Santa's busy
- 'Cause he's never come around
- I think of him
- When Christmas comes to town
(Long pause)
Hero Girl:
- The best time of the year
- When everyone comes home
- With all this Christmas cheer
- It's hard to be alone
- Putting up the Christmas tree
- With friends who come around
- It's so much fun
- When Christmas comes to town
- Presents for the children
- Wrapped in red and green
Lonely Boy:
- All the things I've heard about
- But never really seen
Hero Girl:
- No one will be sleeping on
- The night of Christmas Eve
- (Together with LB): Hoping Santa's on his way
- Hero Girl:When Santa's sleigh bells ring
- LB: I listen all around
- Hero Girl: The herald angels sing
- LB: I never heard a sound
- Hero Girl: And all the dreams of children
- LB: Once lost will all be found
Hero Girl:
- That's all I want
- When Christmas comes to town
LB & Hero Girl:
- That's all I want
- When Christmas comes to town
